a fast shutter speed may be used to capture something that is moving.
the downside of using a faster shutter speed is that the film may be under exposed.
a slower shutter speed may be used in a space with lower lighting.
the downside of using a slower shutter speed is that you must hold the camera really still in order to take a clear picture and you may need a tripod.
